Ch. 6:
“...he’s perfectly idiotic!” P.46
(R) All the animals here except for the mouse seem to have lost their minds! You ask a simple question and they answer back with a confusing response. If I had been in Alice’s shoes I would have been desperate to meet one person, that could help me. I would want to go home. Surprisingly, Alice has not mentioned wanting to find a way back home. All she is worried about is finding the alluring garden and growing back to her normal size. She never considered how she would come back or when. She doesn’t even know if she will have to stay in Wonderland for the rest of her life.
“‘But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ Alice remarked. ‘Oh you can’t help that,’ said the cat: ‘we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.’ ‘How do you know I’m mad?’ said Alice ‘You must be,’ said the cat, ‘Or you wouldn’t have come here.’” P. 51
(CL) As Alice said earlier, “...he’s perfectly idiotic!” everyone in Wonderland is now mad! (R) Wow! Could the story have gotten stranger? She meets the ugly duchess and a cat with a grin from ear to ear. Along with that a baby turns into a pig! (C) Seeing a baby turn into a pig, I have to admit would have sent me running, full of fright. The whole thing seems rather frightening now. Although the story (in my opinion) has taken a frightening twist, I have to say Lewis Carroll has done a terrific job with continuously surprising me.
