What did they wear?

In the 1840's womens gowns had wide puffed sleeves. Dresses were pale color to incorporate a flower.They alos used petticoats and size of skirt grew.Evening gowns had a low neckline and were often worn off the shoulder. In the 1860's the skirts became flatter from the front. Day dresses had high necklines with lace collars. Evening gowns wereworn with gloves. In the 1870's tea gowns were introduced.Fan hoop skirts were gone because woman wanted to look thinner. The dresses were extremely tight around the corseted torso and small hats were used sometimes. In 1880's woman wore matching riding clothes.Hunting costumes were worn with boots and ccasual clothes consisted of a jacket and a skirt. During the 1890's they used high collars and stiffsteel bonning.There were no more bustlers because woman wanted the tiny wasp waist instead.
